Suit over Laken Riley’s death; Children caught up in police chase

*Laken Riley’s father has filed a lawsuit against the state’s university system and the apartment complex where she lived claiming negligence.  The suit alleges negligence on the part of the university system and the property management for failing to provide a safe environment and properly screen tenants. It claims that if proper actions had been taken, the college student’s death could have been prevented. Fox 5 Atlanta reports both the University of Georgia and the University System of Georgia have declined to comment on the pending litigation.  

*A child is recovering from minor injuries after being held outside a vehicle window during a police chase in Cook County. A Georgia State Patrol representative says a trooper attempted a traffic stop Thursday after spotting them speeding. During a PIT maneuver the Trooper’s vehicle then crashed into a Cook County deputy’s vehicle. Another child suffered minor injuries, and both were sent to the hospital. The suspect driver also reported injuries.
