Hail, heavy rains pound parts of NE Ga.

Heavy rain that swamped parts of northeast Georgia, including the Gainesville area, overnight and hail covered the ground like snow in some places including Dawson County. At one point early this morning, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flash flood warning for part of several counties, including Hall and Forsyth.

Some areas received anywhere from two-to-four-inches of rain in a short period of time.  An inch-and-a-half was recorded yesterday and overnight at the Gainesville airport.

Most of the hail that fell as the system moved through was reported in more mountainous areas of north Georgia. That system was moving through southeast Georgia as mid-morning approached Friday. And now that it’s out of our area, things are expected to begin to dry-out and a spring-like weekend is ahead.
