Another gas leak

For the second time in just a few weeks, a gas leak has disrupted traffic for several hours on Hall County roads.

This time it happened Wednesday afternoon according to a sheriff’s office Traffic Alert.

This one was at the Gillsville Highway/Harmony Church Road intersection. At one point the county fire department, and sheriff’s office were on the scene.

No word yet on what caused it or how long the intersection was closed.

The earlier one occured Jan. 28 on Sloan Mill Road.

EARLIER STORY. POSTED JAN. 29:

Sloan Mill Road was closed for about seven hours Wednesday afternoon and night because of a gas leak. Gas leaks are usually capped in much less time than that. Why did this one take so long?

“A contractor not affiliated with Atlanta Gas Light damaged our line near Sloan Mill Road and Creek Water Crossing in Hall County on Wednesday, Jan. 28,” Atlanta Gas Light’s DeAllous Smith wrote in an email Thursday afternoon. “The nature of the damage required us to excavate the road and also install a bypass line to prevent customers losing service while crews safely repaired the damage.”

It was until about midnight that the sheriff’s office reported that the road had reopened.

ORIGINAL ALERT. POSTED 4:50 P.M. WEDNESDAY – Sloan Mill Road will be shut down from Creek Water Crossing to Schubert Road, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).

“HCSO and Atlanta Gas Company are on scene,” a sheriff’s office Facebook posting says. “We will update you when the roadway is open.”
