Two wanted men captured in N. Hall

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:

“Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputies, with assistance from the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, apprehended two men on outstanding warrants and other charges near Clermont on Tuesday afternoon….

Warrant unit deputies from both agencies responded to Shearbook Lane after receiving information one of the men, Harry Jackson Benton, 37, of Gainesville, was in the area.

Deputies spotted Benton driving a car near Northwoods Drive. They activated emergency lights and sirens to conduct a traffic stop, but he kept driving. Benton turned on Shearbrook Lane and pulled into a driveway at the end of the road, hitting a parked vehicle. Benton got out of the car and ran, discarding bags containing approximately three grams of methamphetamine and less than an ounce of marijuana. Deputies apprehended him a short time later. The Georgia State Patrol responded to conduct the crash investigation. No injuries were reported.

Hall County deputies charged Benton with possession of methamphetamine (felony), possession of marijuana (misdemeanor), leaving the scene of an accident and obstruction of an officer (both misdemeanors). Dawson County deputies also charged Benton, who was wanted on a superior court arrest order, in connection with Tuesday’s incident.

A passenger, Tyler Anthony Tatum, 37, of Gainesville, who initially gave Hall County deputies a false name and date of birth, was charged with giving false information to an officer (misdemeanor). He was wanted for a parole violation. A female passenger, 30, of Gainesville, was released from the scene. The Hall County Division of Family & Children Services took custody of an infant in the vehicle.

Both men were transported to the Hall County Jail and remain held without bond on some of the charges.”
