Two people were slightly injured in a three-vehicle crash in South Hall Friday afternoon. The State Patrol said Saturday night it was a multi-vehicle accident that happened about 3:45 in the area of Lanier Islands Parkway, Golden Parkway and Whispering Pines Drive.
STATE PATROL NARRATIVE:
“It was determined that a Jeep Cherokee, driven by Chrystal Persons, 37, of Buford, was traveling east on Lanier Islands Pkwy in the left-hand travel lane. A Honda Odyssey van, operated by Austin Mapel, 20, of Buford, was on Golden Parkway, facing south, attempting to cross (the road) and continue onto Whispering Pines Drive.
A Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Alejandro Olivera Martinez, 43, of Buford, was on Whispering Pines Drive, facing north, in the left-hand turn lane. When the traffic signal for Golden Parkway/Whispering Pines Drive turned green, Mapel began to cross the intersection. Ms. Person’s failed to stop for the red traffic signal and struck the right front of the Odyssey with the front of the Jeep, causing the Jeep to strike the front of the Silverado as it sat still, waiting to turn left.
Ms. Person was cited for Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device.
Mr. Mapel and Mr. Olivera Martinez had complaints of injuries but were not transported for treatment.
The intersection was closed for approximately 45 minutes for the investigation and clean-up.”
