James Vernon Miller, 48, who is homeless, was arrested this week in connection with the recent theft of electronic tablets from a Hall County business.
HCSO NARRATIVE:
“(Two weeks ago), the office manager at Total Imaging, Inc. on Atlas Circle in Gainesville filed a report with a Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputy indicating several Samsung tablets had been stolen from company fleet vehicles. The vehicles had been parked at the business between Dec. 20…and Jan. 5…when the business was closed for the holidays. The case was then turned over to HCSO property crimes investigators.
(Early Wednesday morning), officers with the Gainesville Police Department responded to a trespassing call at a location on Hilton Drive. They encountered Miller, who had five Samsung tablets in his possession. A check of the serial numbers determined the tablets were among eight stolen from the Total Imaging, Inc. fleet vehicles. Each tablet was valued at $100.
Miller was taken into custody and charged by Gainesville PD with theft by receiving. HCSO charged Miller with four counts of entering an automobile to commit theft.”
Miller remains in the Hall County Jail on a hold for the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.”
A spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office says five of the stolen tablets were recovered but investigators don’t know where the other three are.
