The 52-year-old woman accused in the theft of nearly $400,000 from the Lumpkin County Finance Department is in jail in Dahlonega after being extradited from Florida.
Magdalena Magaden was arrested several weeks ago in Orlando. She is charged with Theft by Deception and is being held without bond.
The investigation began Nov. 11, according to Lumpkin County sheriff’s spokesman Alan Roach, when the sheriff’s office was notified of the theft of $399,416.
As a result of the Investigation, $100,008.96 was recovered and an offender was identified, Lt. Roach said, and Magadan was subsequently located in Florida and arrested by authorities there.
No other information about the theft and any connection between Magadan and the county have been made available.
