The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) is warning of a scam in parts of Georgia that targets Verizon customers. It relates to last week’s loss of service across the country and possible rebates.
And although HCSO has received no such reports in Hall County, the Jones County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) has been fielding them, and HCSO feels there’s a “need to know” here.

“Scam Alert: Fake Verizon “Credit” Message Going Around!
Hey everyone — be extra cautious if you receive a text or email claiming to be from Verizon offering a credit for your account.
Do NOT click the link. This is a scam designed to steal your personal info, account details, or infect your device with malware.
What you should know:
– Legit companies like Verizon will not send unsolicited links promising free credits.
– If it feels too good to be true — it probably is.
– Scammers use this trick to get your login info or financial data.
If you’re unsure whether a message is real:
– Go directly to your Verizon app or official website
– Call Verizon customer support to verify the offer
– Never give personal or account details through a suspicious link”
