Ga. 400 lane closures; Intersection dedication Monday; Peace Vigil planned

*Motorists should expect lane closures on Georgia 400 in both directions starting Monday as crews perform construction work in the median, according to the state Department of Transportation (GDOT). The lane closures will take place between McFarland Parkway and Windward Parkway daily until further notice from 9:00-4:00, weather permitting.

*A ceremony will be held Monday as the City of Cumming dedicates the intersection of Castleberry and Buford Dam roads in memory of a retired law enforcement officer who, as a volunteer traffic control officer, was killed during the city’s Christmas parade last month. The Sgt. Rob Muth Memorial Intersection dedication will be held at noon.

*A Peace Vigil is planned in downtown Gainesville late Sunday afternoon. Sponsored by the Newtown Florist Club, it will be held on the pedestrian bridge over Jesse Jewell Parkway 5:30-6:30. “Standing in solidarity for the value of human life, accountability, justice, and peace,” the announcement on Facebook says. It comes as the club kicks off its annual observance of King Week, which will include the King Day March next Saturday.
