Fire destroys century-old church; Dahlonega lawmaker responsible for new tag

*An early morning fire Friday destroyed a 125-year-old church in Forsyth County. Investigators spent the day Friday looking for the cause of the fire at Mercy Fellowship Church on Dogwood Street in Cumming. A police officer patrolling the area about 3:00 discovered the fire. The pastor says he’s unsure right now about the church’s future. The building housing the church has served as a place of worship for several congregations over the years.

*A new specialty tag is now on sale in Georgia. The “America First” tag was the brainchild of former Senate Majority Leader Steve Gooch (R-Dahlonega). Gooch’s bill creating the tag had no trouble getting approval from the Republican-controlled state legislature and being signed by GOP Gov. Brian Kemp. The tag will cost $90 the first year and $55 to renew. Gooch, who is running for Lt. Governor this year says the new license plate will give Georgians a way to “show your support for President Trump and his movement every mile you drive.”
