18-year-old charged with racing

A Hall County sheriff’s deputy arrested an 18-year-old Thursday night and charged him with racing on a busy north Gainesville road. However, the driver of the second car that was involved had not been found as of late Friday afternoon.

HCSO (HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE) NARRATIVE:

“Just after 8:00), the deputy was preparing to make a turn from Oak Tree Drive to Thompson Bridge Road when he observed two vehicles, a Volkswagen GTI and a Chevrolet Silverado, traveling side by side in the northbound lanes of the road. Initially, the two vehicles were traveling at a normal speed but then both accelerated quickly in an apparent contest for speed. The deputy followed. He estimated the speed of both vehicles at 71 mph in a 40-mph speed zone.

The driver of the Silverado, identified as Ivan Jariel Galvan, made a left turn into the parking lot of the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Thompson Bridge Road. At that time, the deputy was able to stop Mr. Galvan and place him under arrest. The driver of the GTI continued northbound on Thompson Bridge Road. That driver has not been identified.

Mr. Galvan was arrested on charges of racing on highway or streets, speeding and reckless driving. He posted a bond of $1,560 and was released from the Hall County Jail (Friday morning).”
