New Year’s Eve party dispute leads to burglary, home invasion charges

A dispute at a New Year’s Eve party in Gainesville ended with several charges being filed against two of the attendees, including Home Invasion and burglary.

The pair was intoxicated and at a family member’s party in the 1400 block of Lakeshore Circle where they got into a dispute with each other regarding their relationship, a Gainesville Police Department spokesman said Friday. One of them, he said, fired a gun at one point but no one was injured.

And the Home Invasion and Burglary charges?

“They were attempting to get into the residence after being locked out,” Capt. Kevin Holbrook said. And since there were children present, they also face child cruelty charges.

Maeto Perez Y Perez, 24, is charged with Home Invasion, Burglary, Public Drunkenness, Criminal Damage to Property, Loitering or Prowling, Trespassing, Reckless Conduct and Cruelty to Children. He is being held without bond.

Maria Carmelo Jose, 18, is charged with Cruelty to Children, Reckless Conduct, Public Drunkenness, Loitering or Prowling, Trespassing, Criminal Damage to Property, Burglary, and Home Invasion. An immigration “hold” was also placed on her. She is also being held without bond.
