It’s another High Fire Danger Day for north, central Ga.; caution urged in using fireworks

The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning about the dangers of outdoor burning again today for our area and other parts of north and central Georgia. It’s the second day in a row for such a warning and is because of continued dry conditions, low humidities and gusty winds.

And state officials are urging caution if you plan to celebrate the new year with fireworks tonight. Sparks from them could touch off grass and woods fire as the drought continues its hold on the entire state.

The NWS forecast for tonight for the Gainesville area calls for winds possibly gusting to 20 mph.

NWS EARLY WEDNESDAY ADVISORY:

"...HIGH FIRE DANGER CONDITIONS THIS AFTERNOON INTO THE EARLY EVENING
FOR PORTIONS OF NORTH GEORGIA AND CENTRAL GEORGIA DUE TO LOW
RELATIVE HUMIDITIES...

Relative Humidities of 25 percent or less can be expected for 4
or more hours this afternoon into the evening. Winds will be west
at 6 to 12 mph.

With dry fuels, high fire danger conditions can be expected.

Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities whether
you may burn outdoors. If you do burn outside, use extreme
caution."
