NGMC Gville/Ga. Heart Institute milestone

The heart surgery team at NGMC Gainesville this week completed its 30th implant of an advanced heart failure therapy called Barostim.

This device is placed under the skin of the chest, rather than in the heart itself, during a minimally invasive surgical procedure. Barostim treats heart failure by using electrical signals to reduce blood pressure and reduce the heart’s workload, improving quality of life for patients.

“This is another example of how Georgia Heart Institute, with its partners in Northeast Georgia Physicians Group Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery, is leading the way in advanced heart failure therapies, “a NGMC Facebook posting says.
