HCSO: Dog fight leads to fatal shooting

A dog fight in a park off Dawsonville Highway Sunday afternoon ended in gunfire that left one man dead and another in jail, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO). One of the dogs was also shot and killed.

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NEWS RELEASE:

“…HCSO deputies responded to the incident in Simpson Park at approximately 3:30 p.m. Hall County Fire Rescue transported the victim, 70, to the hospital. The alleged adult male shooter, 52, initially remained at the scene but left in his SUV as deputies were responding. Deputies stopped and detained him as he was leaving the park at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Simpson Park Road…

According to initial details, the two men, who did not know one another, were walking their dogs in the park when the dogs began fighting. The male suspect shot the victim’s dog with a handgun and then shot the victim. The victim died at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. The victim’s dog also died.

Investigators were continuing to work into the evening on the case. The suspect remains in custody as charges are finalized.
