HCSO: Habersham vehicle repossession turns violent, ends with arrest in Hall Co.

A Cornelia woman is free on bonds totaling $5,060 after being jailed in Gainesville Sunday night in connection with an on-the-road incident involving a tow truck driver who had repossessed a vehicle earlier in the evening.

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:

“(Just after 10:00, a Hall County sheriff’s) deputy was assisting with a traffic stop on Belton Bridge Road when he saw a Chevrolet pickup truck and a tow truck traveling southbound on the road.

As the vehicles approached the deputy’s location, the driver of the pickup, later identified as Sandra Garcia, 52, accelerated and moved into the northbound lane and veered toward the tow truck in an attempt to force the tow truck from the road. When the tow truck driver braked to avoid a collision, Ms. Garcia drove past the tow truck, skidded off the roadway, turned around in the middle of the road and began traveling back toward the tow truck.

At that point, the deputy activated the emergency equipment on his patrol vehicle to conduct a traffic stop. Both Ms. Garcia and the tow truck driver stopped to speak with the deputy.

The investigation at the scene determined the tow truck driver had repossessed a vehicle at the Garcia residence in Habersham County earlier in the evening. When the tow truck driver left the carport of the residence with the repossessed vehicle, Ms. Garcia followed him (approximately 3-4 miles) until the deputy witnessed the incident on Belton Bridge Road.

Ms. Garcia was detained at the scene on charges of aggravated assault, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, failure to maintain lane and reckless driving…”
