With temperatures in the teens possible overnight in the Gainesville area and across much of north Georgia and a Cold Weather Advisory still in effect, warming stations are opening in some places for the evening.
In Gainesville, the Salvation Army will have one at 711 Dorsey Street, and it will be open through Tuesday night. In Cumming, Family Promise of Forsyth County, Inc., will open one Sunday night through 7:00 Monday morning at 127 Samaritan Drive. And in Gwinnett County, six will be open, including one in Buford at 2755 Sawnee Avenue.
Throughout the day Sunday temperatures kept falling with brisk winds making it seem colder than the actual temperature. By 5:00 p.m., National Weather Service (NWS) data collected at the Gainesville airport showed the temperature was 37 with a wind chill of 28. At 6:00 Sunday morning, the readings were 50 and 45, respectively. The top wind gust during the day was 32 mph which was recorded at 8:00 a.m. Gusts of between 25 and 30 mph were common all day.
