Pedestrian-train victim ID’d

UPDATE #3. POSTED 6:30 P.M. WEDNESDAY:

The pedestrian killed Tuesday morning in south Gainesville when she was struck by an Amtrak passenger train was Stephanie Leigh Cleveland, 43 of Gainesville, Georgia was the deceased..

But, other than that, Gainesville Police spokesman Kevin Holbrook offered little additional information late Wednesday. “Case remains under investigation,” he wrote in an email, “but appears that the victim saw the train coming.”

GPD UPDATE #2. POSTED 5:00 P.M. TUESDAY:

Late Tuesday afternoon, a spokesman for the Gainesville Police Department said there was little that was new to report regarding Tuesday morning’s train-pedestrian accident on the city’s southside.

Capt. Kevin Holbrook said police were still waiting for the victim’s identification and that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident was continuing.

The accident happened about 7:30. The train that was involved was the Amtrak Crescent which runs through Gainesville twice daily between New York and New Orleans.
