Rape suspect back in Hall Co.; extradited from Texas

A Hall County rape suspect, wanted for more than a month, has been returned to Gainesville after being extradited from Texas. Jayler Alexander Tovar was wanted on rape and false imprisonment charges in connection with an incident that reportedly occurred at his home on Gaines Mill Road Sept. 21.

HCSO NARRATIVE:

“…Tovar, 31, was (returned) from Webb County, Texas, and booked into the Hall County Jail on Saturday afternoon…

According to the preliminary investigation, Tovar raped the female victim, 27, at his residence in the 3000 block of Rose Petal Street between 1 and 2 a.m. (and) held the victim against her will for approximately one hour.  Following the incident, she texted a friend who picked her up and took her to a safe location. Tovar and the victim knew one another prior to the crime.

Deputies received the initial call about the crime at approximately 11 a.m. the same day and, along with investigators, met with the victim. Investigators then obtained arrest warrants for Tovar.

While trying to locate Tovar, investigators determined that he left the area and was traveling to the southern border. Investigators requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service. Marshals, with assistance from several agencies (listed below), found Tovar in Brownsville, Texas, on Oct. 10.
