The drought in Georgia expanded very little but intensified in several areas this past week.
According to the U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM), the southern portion of Gwinnett is now suffering “serious” drought conditions (Level 3 on the USDM scale of intensity). Meanwhile, conditions are less severe in Hall County and most of northeast Georgia where Level 2, or “moderately” dry conditions prevail.
The most severe conditions remain confined mostly to the southwest corner of the state.
Meanwhile, the level of Lake Lanier is down another half-a-foot this week and now sits at 1065.9.
