Gas prices continue their downward spiral.
This week’s average for a gallon in Gainesville is $2.78, compared to $2.83 a week ago. The statewide average stands at $2.81. A week ago, it was $2.87. And the national average is six cents a gallon cheaper – $3.06. AAA says the national average could soon reach the $3.00 mark for the first time in four years.
Several factors are behind the drop, including falling crude oil prices, lower gasoline demand, and cheaper winter-blend gasoline at the pump. AAA also notes the tropics have been relatively quiet, and storm activity hasn’t had an impact on gas prices.
