2:30 P.M. SUNDAY UPDATE:
Cumming Police said Sunday the driver of the pickup involved in the accident Saturday on Ga. 400 that left two people seriously injured has been charged with DUI. Gavin Michael Schmutzer, who suffered minor injuries, is also charged with following too closely and more charges are pending. The two people seriously injured in the crash remained hospitalized Sunday, one of them now reported in critical condition.

CUMMING POLICE NEWS RELEASE:
“…(Cumming Police) responded to a two-car accident with serious injuries on Georgia 400 between Mary Alice and Bald Ridge, south of exit 15 (Saturdayafternoon).
A Ford F-150 rear-ended another car, a Kia SUV, causing the Kia to overturn in the middle of Georgia 400. Both occupants of the Kia were seriously injured as they sustained head injuries. The occupants of the Kia were immediately transported to the hospital for treatment. The occupant of the Ford F-150 had minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital.
The City of Cumming Police Department accident reconstruction team is handling the crash. Witnesses are being interviewed, the scene is being processed for any evidence, and the vehicles have been towed for further investigation. There are no charges at this time as the investigation is pending.”
