Middle Ga. discussion of lessons learned from Apalachee shooting

Officials in from Barrow County have met with Crisp County officials to share what they’ve learned in the year after the deadly mass shooting at Apalachee High.

Police and first responders gathered at South Georgia Technical College in Cordele. Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith tells WALB he hopes he can memorialize the lives lost by talking about what he’s learned.

Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock said it’s still hard to talk about what happened that day in September 2024.

Two students and two teachers were killed in the shooting. Alleged shooter, Colt Gray, is still awaiting trial.
