NWS: Drought may last rest of year

The drought that has its grip on Georgia may continue into the New Year, according to the National Weather Service’s (NWS) Three Month Drought Outlook.

“October is traditionally one of the driest months in Georgia,” the advisory notes. “This, combined with the potential development of La Nina conditions in the Pacific favor expansion of the drought over the next three months.”

This week’s report from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows the drought now covering more than 98 percent of Georgia and intensifying in parts of the state though “least severe” conditions are found in most of the affected counties.
