Groundbreaking was held Thursday on Winder Highway for the Hall County School District’s (HCSD) newest school – World Language Academy.
The $40 million project was approved by the school board earlier this year and the new school is scheduled to open with the start of a new school year in August 2027.
The elementary school originated as Chestnut Mountain Elementary in the 1960s..
The now torn-down school was originally built in 1965 as Chestnut Mountain Elementary. It became WLA Elementary in 2008 when Chestnut Mountain moved to its current location. Students are currently attending what was formerly Oakwood Elementary while the new school is under construction.
