GOP candidate prevails; Mall shooting; More measles

*SRN NEWS/AP) – A GOP business owner won a Georgia state Senate race Tuesday over a Democrat who drew national attention following a better-than-expected showing in a special election last month. Republican Jason Dickerson bested Democrat Debra Shigley in the runoff after no candidate in a seven-person field won a majority to take the seat outright in August. Dickerson, who had a big lead in unofficial results, declared victory Tuesday night, and Shigley conceded.

*One person is dead following a shooting on Tuesday afternoon at Augusta Mall, and two suspects are in custody. WRDW-TV reports that Sheriff Eugene Brantley said that the incident originated from a fight that escalated inside the mall, rather than an active shooter situation. According to Sheriff Brantley, around six people were involved, with the shooting occurring near the escalators. Emergency crews treated two individuals for non-gunshot-related injuries. The mall was evacuated, and authorities were searching for two individuals of interest.

*Three more cases of measles have been confirmed in Georgia. The state Department of Health says they were all close contacts of a patient whose case was confirmed nearly two weeks ago. The individuals infected are unvaccinated and the status of the third person is unknown.
