*Nearly 40 years after a string of violent crimes, an Atlanta man has been found guilty. Jurors convicted 61-year-old Jeffrey Briney of rape, kidnapping, armed robbery, and aggravated assault for two apartment invasions in 1986 on Briarwood Road and Buford Highway. The cases went cold until DNA testing in 2023 linked Briney to the crimes, with additional evidence connecting his brother to one of the attacks.
*The president of Georgia’s NAACP is speaking out after several Cobb County educators were disciplined for social media posts following the death of activist Charlie Kirk. Gerald Griggs said the organization believes the teachers’ comments are protected under the First Amendment and promised support for those impacted. Superintendent Chris Ragsdale said fewer than 15 employees were placed on leave and two were fired, citing school safety concerns.
