Former longtime Gville city councilman Bob Hamrick dies

A man who served 46 years on the Gainesville City Council and was a former mayor, Bob Hamrick, has died. He passed away Monday, it was learned Wednesday. He was 96.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday at Gainesville First United Methodist Church.

“A number of dynamics in my personal life have changed since I announced as a candidate for re-election,” Hamrick said in 2014 in announcing he would not seek re-election. “Carolyn [Hamrick’s wife] and I both face some additional health issues.”  Carolyn Hamrick died in 2021.

Hamrick served as mayor for 12 years when the post was rotated among council members.  The post is now filled by popular election.
