HCSO: Drug suspect now facing charges involving stolen mail

Hall County authorities have charged a Clermont man, already in jail for drug possession, with possession of stolen mail.

HALL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:

“(Sheriff’s) deputies initially arrested William Kyle Underwood, 30, on Thursday evening March 6, following a traffic stop in the 2000 block of Skyline Drive. They took Underwood, who was driving the vehicle, into custody for an outstanding warrant.

Underwood was in possession of a small amount of fentanyl and a metal straw during the stop. Deputies located several pieces of suspected stolen mail in the vehicle and notified the HCSO Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

Deputies obtained warrants charging Underwood with possession of fentanyl (felony) and possession of drug-related objects (misdemeanor) on the evening of the stop, while SIU began investigating the mail.

On Monday, March 10, investigators charged Underwood with two counts of possession of stolen mail (felonies). According to the initial investigation, numerous pieces of mail found in the car were stolen from several Hall County addresses, including residences on the following streets.

  • Rockrose Green Way
  • Pleasant Garden Drive
  • Big Rock Ridge Trail
  • Garden Park View
  • Bogan Springs Drive

Underwood, who has remained in jail since last week’s arrest, is being held without bond. Additional charges in the case are possible.”
