Shooting suspect in custody; $104K in swindles/scams

*A man who was wanted in connection with a shooting in Lumpkin County is now in custody. William “Randall” Crawford, 44, was arrested in Pickens County, according to the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) but details surrounding his arrest were not immediately available. A lookout for Crawford had been issued by the sheriff’s office a few days ago, including a description of the vehicle he was believed driving. The lookout said he was last seen leaving the Mountain Brook Circle/Mill Cove Road area and was possibly armed.

*Gainesville Police say a 70-year-old woman was recently scammed out of $100,000 by con artists but they didn’t immediately say how the con occurred. Also, they report that AT&T was taken for more than $4,000 in a case of fraud.  “…subject got a call from subject asking to pay their phone bill, once they had the account number they added phones to the account, purchased $4,296 in iPhones,” Lt. Kevin Holbrook wrote in an email.
