A Cumming woman has been ordered to spend 15 years in prison for abandoning her infant daughter in a wooded area in a case that drew national attention.
It’s been close to six years since the baby was found alive in woods off Daves Creek Road. The infant, nicknamed “Baby India” by her rescuers, was found in a plastic bag.
A judge Thursday gave Karima Jiwani a 30-year sentence, 15 to be served behind bars and 15 on probation, after she agreed to a negotiated pleas of guilty to attempted murder and child cruelty. She was arrested two years ago after authorities were finally able to identify the infant.
