GDOT board OKs road projects in Lumpkin, Dawson, other NE Ga. counties

A $10 million resurfacing of eight miles of Georgia 400 in Dawson and Lumpkin counties has been approved by the state Department of Transportation (GDOT) Board of Directors.

The contract calls for work to begin south of Kilough Church Road, extending to south of the Chestatee River Bridge and to be finished by the end of the year.

It is one of the largest projects approved in the board’s recent contract lettings and while it is the only one in the immediate Gainesville area, there are several others, most notably in the mountains, in northeast Georgia that were okayed:

*Union County: Four miles of widening and reconstruction of U.S. 76/Ga. 515/Ga. 2.

*Elbert, Hart counties: Seven miles of resurfacing on Ga. 77.

*Rabun County: Three miles of widening of Ga. 15

*Union County: Construction of a bridge on Ga. 180 over Slaughter Creek
