Georgia Trend magazine recently did an in-depth investigation into the state of cardiac care in Georgia – and a Gainesville heart surgeon was prominently quoted in the resulting article. Dr. Ronnie Ramadan is director of the Structural Heart Center at the Northeast Georgia Health System’s (NGHS) Georgia Heart Institute.
The magazine found that one of the biggest advances in cardiac care has been less-invasive surgeries to fix or replace faulty heart valves. Dr. Ramadan specializes in that type of operation.
“Now instead of staying in the hospital for a week after open-heart surgery and then taking about two months to recover from a sternotomy, you can literally go back to work two days later,” he told Georgia Trend. “You don’t need anybody to kind of take care of you because you’re doing whatever you need to do. So, recovery is very, very good.”
