*A Southwest Airlines flight to Midway Airport in Chicago was delayed for several hours after one of the pilots was arrested and charged with DUI at Savannah Hilton Head Airport. Airline officials say David Paul Allsop has been removed from duty and the flight delay was due to Southwest Airlines searching for a new pilot. The airline apologized for the disruption to passengers’ travel plans and emphasized the importance of safety for employees and customers. WSAV reports Allsop is charged with driving under the influence, according to jail records, and has been granted a $3,500 dollar bond.
*Counseling services are being made available to students and staff at a metro Atlanta school where a student was injured in a shooting. The girl was taken to the hospital from Lindley Middle School in Mableton Wednesday, after she allegedly suffered a self-inflicted wound. Students were evacuated and taken to nearby church.
*Georgia’s Board of Regents is being sued over the death of a UGA football player. It’s been two years since Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy died in a high-speed wreck on a night the school officially celebrated a football national championship. Willock’s parents are suing the board for two-million dollars for negligence. LeCroy was reportedly intoxicated and racing with another vehicle at the time of the accident.
*A voting rights group founded by Stacey Abrams is facing a six-figure fine. The New Georgia Project admitted to committing over a dozen violations under a consent order approved Tuesday. The State Ethics Commission says the organization didn’t register as an independent political committee or disclose activities. The board issued a $300,000 fine, which is the largest campaign finance violation fine it has ever issued.
