*Small businesses in Augusta are experiencing a surge in sales this holiday season following the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, which forced many businesses to close. With almost three months since the hurricane hit, some businesses are reporting that this holiday season has been their busiest yet. Local businesses are grateful for the community’s support; and the owners and employees are expressing their appreciation for the community’s continued support during these challenging times.
*An explosion at a Tyson Foods poultry processing plant in Camilla has killed one person. The explosion happened early Friday morning. Officials say the building went up in flames after the explosion. One woman, the 61-year-old wife of an employee, has been pronounced dead. Officials said as late as Friday afternoon they were unable to access the body, though, due to debris and building damage hindering recovery efforts. The cause of the explosion was not immediately known.
