Gainesville company cited in worker’s death

A Gainesville-based construction company, Plow Underground Construction LLC, has been cited by the federal government for a serious safety violation after a worker’s death in Fairview, N.C., earlier this year.

According to the Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA), the accident happened June 10 as Jesus Flores, 26, of Gainesville was operating a trencher while “traveling down a main road” in a housing development. The road had an approximate 20% grade, the report says.

“While in transit from one job location to another, the employee lost control of the trencher and drove off the left side of the road, going over an embankment. The employee sustained fatal injuries in the incident and was pronounced dead at the scene.”

OSHA’s citation ways the incident involved missing safety equipment on the trencher.
