Hall escapee captured after just two days of freedom

A Gainesville man who escaped a work release program job was free only two days before he as back in custody.

Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies initially arrested Daniel Lee Zipp, 22, Oct. 15 on a Superior Court arrest order.

“Zipp, who later was part of the Hall County Work Release Program, was working an approved job at a business in the 400 block of Shallowford Road on the afternoon of Nov. 15. Zipp cut off his ankle monitor and walked away from work,” according to sheriff spokesman Derreck Booth. “Deputies obtained warrants for escape and interference with electronic monitoring, both felonies.”

On the evening of Nov. 17, deputies responded to a call about a suspicious person at a vacant residence in the 4000 block of Cagle Road off Ga. 365. Deputies spoke with a man, later identified as Zipp, who was inside of a U-Haul vehicle parked in the driveway.

According to the preliminary investigation, Zipp broke into the vacant home and had been staying there for approximately two days. He is charged with first-degree burglary (felony), criminal trespass (misdemeanor) and loitering or prowling (misdemeanor) in connection to the residence. Deputies also issued a citation for open container in vehicle. They found an open bottle of alcohol in the U-Haul Zipp was in.

Zipp was being held in the Hall County Jail without bond on Wednesday afternoon.
