Dahlonega church offering free marriages to LGBTQIA+ members

With an eye toward January 20 when Donald Trump will become President, a Dahlonega church is offering free weddings to interfaith (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual) LGBTQIA+ members.

Rev. Charlotte Arsenault of the Georgia Mountains Unitarian Universalist Church will perform the ceremonies “for LGBTQIA individuals looking to tie the knot before January 20th, 2025,” according to a Facebook post. “(The) free, simple wedding officiation services (will be held) December 7.”

So, what does the president-elect have in mind for the LGBTQUIA+ community?

Time magazine, in a story published earlier this month, touched on that. “On Trump’s official website,” the article reads, “he outlines a 20-point platform, his roadmap to “Make America Great Again,” called Agenda 47. There, he states his priorities to roll back LGBTQ+ rights, including his plans to “keep men out of women’s sports”—targeting the small number of trans women who choose to join teams that match their gender identity—and “cut federal funding for any school pushing…radical gender ideology.”
