HCSO: Student found with drugs on campus, arrested

A Johnson High School student was arrested Wednesday after authorities say they discovered a quantity of illegal drugs in his possession on school property.

A teacher at the school alerted administrators after “noticing a strong odor of marijuana” coming from Kenny Alexander Garcia Perez, 17, of Gainesville. Administrators first questioned Perez and then conducted a search of his person and his vehicle per school policy. During the search of the vehicle, discovered eight THC vape pens and two empty 10-count cartons of THC vape pens.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) school resource officer assigned to Johnson High School arrested Perez on charges of possession of a Schedule I drug with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana (THC) on public school property, both felony offenses.

Perez remains in the Hall County Jail with no bond.
