Hit-and-run arrest made after injured victim followed other driver

The injured victim of a hit-and-run driver on the westside of town Wednesday night didn’t just sit and wait for the cops to show up, he took matters into his own hands, so to speak.

“This was a two-vehicle sideswipe accident on Memorial Park Drive at Centennial Drive,” Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) spokesman Derreck Booth said. “The at-fault driver, (Fredy) Atjum-Ixcoy, left the scene of the accident. The victim driver followed him to the 2000 block of Birch Mountain Run.”

Booth added that sheriff’s deputies responded to the Birch Mountain Run address and conducted an initial investigtion.

“They charged Atjum-Ixcoy, 25, of Gainesville, with DUI alcohol/less safe, duty to stop at accident (hit and run), driving while unlicensed or expired and failure to maintain lane. The victim driver was transported to the hospital for lower back pain.”
