Much has been written and said the past few weeks about how dry October was in Georgia and as we move into November the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued its Climate Summary for October.
Data collection by the NWS Peachtree City office from the reporting stations in its service area, including Gainesville, show that only Macon recorded zero amounts of rain. But for five others, Gainesville included, only a trace was noted. The others are Atlanta, DeKalb Peachtree Airport, Fulton County Airport, and Peachtree City. Athens recorded .01 of an inch and Rome .02. The big “winner,” NWS notes, was Columbus with .12.
Overall, rainfall was around 3.5 inches below normal across the region – 3.85 inches in Gainesville.
Temperatures through the month of October, meanwhile, averaged about two degrees above normal, led by Gainesville, 3.3 degrees above average, and Atlanta, 3.4 degrees above normal. The warmest days of the month in Gainesville were the 2nd and 7th when the high hit 86.
So, what does November hold for us? Well, the forecasts say there’s an “even” chance that rainfall will be near normal and a “good” chance temperatures will be above average.
