UNG mourning loss of four students this semester

The University of North Georgia (UNG) is mourning the loss of four students this semester, the latest an apparent suicide on the Dahlonega campus Thursday. And the university held a “moment of remembrance” on all five of its campuses at noon Friday.

“In light of the profound losses our UNG community has faced this semester, we invite all students, faculty, and staff to join us for a moment of remembrance tomorrow, November 1st, at noon in front of the review stand on the Drill Field,” according to a posting on the UNG Facebook page Thursday.

“During this challenging time, we stand united in our grief,” the message continues. “Counselors will be available on-site to provide support for those who need it. To ensure everyone can participate, all classes on all five campuses will be canceled from 12:00 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. “

“Together, we find strength in our community as we honor the memories of those we’ve lost and support one another through this difficult period. Your presence, whether physical or in spirit, will help us heal as one UNG family.”

The posting did not include information on all of the deaths, but it was just a few weeks ago that one of them occurred during a traffic accident in which a student on a motorcycle was killed. Motorcyclist killed in Lumpkin Co.
