A husband and wife from Commerce remained in the Hall County Jail Thursday following their arrests earlier this week in connection to two theft incidents that occurred in September at a business in the northern part of Hall County.
Earlier this month, the owner of North Hall Tire & Wheel contacted the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) to report suspected thefts of wheels and tires from the business property on Cleveland Highway. He estimated the stolen items had a value of $3,000. HCSO property crimes investigators assigned to the case reviewed video footage from the business and determined two suspects, a man and a woman, had driven an SUV to the back of the property in the overnight hours and loaded the vehicle with several wheels and tires. The thefts occurred on Sept. 12 and Sept. 19.
Video evidence enabled investigators to trace the SUV and ultimately identify the suspects, according to the sheriff’s office. Barry Lamar Norton, 38, and Harley Cohen Norton, 28, were arrested by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and then transported to Hall County on Tuesday.
Both suspects have been charged with two felony counts of theft by taking. Bond has been set at $5,900 each.
