If you’re planning a trip to Highlands, N.C. anytime soon, be aware that the route most northeast Georgians use to get there is closed and no timeline for its reopening has been given..
The Rabun County, Georgia Roads Department says both lanes of N.C.106 between Highlands and Dillard have been will be closed indefinitely.
“While attempting to repair the road following Hurricane Helene NCDOT (North Carolina Department of Transportation) crews have found more extensive damage than was previously seen,” the announcement says.
As of now, there is no timeline for when the “more involved” repairs will be finished and the road is reopened.
In addition to being the main route between northeast Georgia and the popular North Carolina getaway town, the road is also heavily traveled this time of the year by “leaf lookers.”
