Most of north Georgia, including Hall County, is still drought-free but two weeks after Hurricane Helene “put a damper” on the drought, it has returned to some parts of the state.
The U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) says whereas a week ago 98 percent of the Georgia was free of drought, this week that figure is 86 percent. The biggest reason is that a number of counties in southeast Georgia, some along the coast, are now considered “abnormally dry.”
At the other end of the state, a few counties in extreme northwest Georgia are, like they were a week ago, labeled as “abnormally” or “moderately” dry.
