Renovated City Park hosts first event

Gainesville christened its renovated City Park Friday night with the Gainesville High Red Elephants coasting to an easy victory over Lanier 54-3 in their first home game of the season.

The $13 million project included adding 1,000 seats to the home side of the field and upgrading the restrooms, concession stand, press box, and ticket stand. The new seats were added to the home side of the field increasing its capacity to 3,200. The visitors’ side remains at 2,000.

Though not a physical one, another change has to do with City Park event parking at the civic center. The private concessionaire that operates the parking is now accepting credit and debit cards as well as cash.
