Apalachee: Something special for fire, EMT personnel

Shortly after tragedy struck Apalachee High School two weeks ago, family members of some of Barrow County’s fire department personnel put their heads together to come up with a way to take care of their loved ones while they are on shift at their stations.

FIRE DEPARTMENT FACEBOOK POST:

“A little-known fact is that often, after a crew returns to the station from a call—and at other random times throughout the day—they sit out in the bay and “chat” as a way to decompress.

Some of the firefighters’ spouses are aware of this, so the idea of new bay chairs was mentioned. Within minutes of the request being sent out, donations started pouring in toward the purchase of 37 new chairs.

That number includes an “extra chair” for each station for times when a police officer, nurse, local leader, or any other member of the community might stop by and just want to talk.”

Monday, Down Home Dexterities delivered all 37 chairs to each of the County’s six stations.
