Newtown, Hall GOP hosting election-related events

As we barrel toward election day, now less than two months down the road, two Gainesville-based groups are planning events geared toward the elections.

Newtown Florist Club’s (NFC) Voter Education Project is sponsoring a “Get Out the Vote” meeting Thursday at the club’s office on DeSoto Street. It starts at 6:00 and will also be on Zoom. To register, email [email protected] or call 770-718-1343.

A couple of weeks later, the Hall County Republican Party is hosting an event featuring former National Security Advisory Michael T. Flynn, who briefly served in that capacity in Donald Trump’s administration. Details, including registration information, can be found here:

Flynn, a retired Army general, resigned after just 22 days as Trump’s National Security Advisory in light of reports he had lied regarding conversations with Russian ambassador to the United States Sergey Kislyak

Meanwhile, the Hall GOP is involving itself in an unusual Rabun County Board of Education (BOE) race where only write-in candidates will be on the ballot.

“If you know anyone in Rabun Co please share this information,” the party writes in a Facebook post. “It is a very unusual situation and we have to ensure Conservatives get on the school board!! Thank you Rabun County GA Republican Party for getting the word out!! #protectourschools.”

The Rabun County GOP outlines the details of the race, and a mention of a recent meeting, in a separate post:

“Folks missed a great meeting tonight of the Rabun County GA Republican Party where we had all three candidates that are running as write ins for Rabun County Schools Board of Education Post 5.

Write-In Eric Thurmond for Rabun County School Board Post 5

Rick Story for Rabun County Board of Education – Post #5

Jason Streetman

Please remember this is a very unusual election. When you go to the polls to vote, and you come up on the school board post five race there will be no names listed on the ballot. It is not an error and there’s no problem with your voting machine. You will need to press the WRITE IN button and type in one of the three names of the candidates who have declared their intention to see the write-in election for this post.”
