The Hall County Board of Education (BOE) is pledging to stand behind Supt. Will Schofield (pictured) should a dispute with a citizens group, Concerned Citizens of Hall County, end up in court after a recent board meeting that saw fireworks erupt between Schofield and the group.
A resolution recently approved by the board promises that it will “defend or provide representation, as requested by the Superintendent,” and goes on to say, “for any and all civil claims or actions brought, defended or maintained by the District, the Superintendent or any other employees of the District arising out of the performance of their duties or in any way connected therewith, whether based upon negligence, violation of contract rights, or violation of civil, constitutional, common-law, or other statutory rights, whether state or federal in connection with recent allegations related to any program currently being implemented in the District or shared with other school districts.”
In a posting on its Facebook page Thursday, the group defended one of its own who spoke at that recent board meeting “As a citizen, it is your right to find information about what our elected officials and government employees are doing within the community and share it with your fellow citizens. This is our duty and our RIGHT. It is also our responsibility to discuss these issues and ask questions.
The information posted on this page is posted to the PUBLIC online. We have invited citizens to join the conversation and be involved in the community, as it is your RIGHT to do so. Your superintendent and board have now threatened Hall County citizens for exercising their rights.”
