Police: Downtown Gville shooting apparently self-inflicted, accidential

One person was wounded in a shooting in downtown Gainesville early Monday, but police say it was apparently an accident.

“Police did respond to a shooting in the downtown area overnight, in the early morning hours,” police spokesman Kevin Holbrook said Monday afternoon, adding “the case is early in the investigation, but the preliminary investigation indicates it was a self-sustained gunshot wound.”

Lt. Holbrook said it appears “an adult male did have a gun in his waistband and accidentally shot himself in the groin area.”

Holbrook said he was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in stable condition.
